ABOUT COLOR MATCH METHOD™
WHY COLOR MATCH METHOD™ EXISTS TODAY
Color analysis has existed for decades.
But most systems were not built for professionals whose time equals their income.
They were:
-
Difficult to apply consistently and efficiently
-
Dependent on memorization instead of evaluation
-
Open to wide interpretation and highly subjective
-
Disconnected from modern beauty and styling workflows
This created a gap between understanding color and applying it with clarity and consistency.
Color Match Method™ was developed to close that gap.

A METHOD BUILT FOR REAL CLIENT WORK
Color Match Method™ is a professional working system for performing color analysis
on an individual, consistently and reliably.

Color Match Method™ is rooted in our proprietary approach to Hue, Value, and Chroma. With the Method applied, dominant characteristic is then filtered through the Tonal system, which is widely used among image consultants in Europe. This analysis is then further refined into a diagnostic process designed for professional application.
At the center of the Method is the identification of dominant characteristics: warm, cool, light, dark, soft, and clear, and determining their order of importance for each individual.
Once these characteristics are established, the color analysis becomes obvious, and can be easily directed to customer recommendations rather than subjectively explored.
At its core, our process is designed to efficiently and accurately:
-
Identify dominant traits
-
Use drapes to test and confirm
-
Establish clear direction before refining
When you learn to recognize and evaluate these traigs, color analysis shifts from interpretation to observation.
What may have once felt subjective, CMM has made is structured, repeatable, and precise.

A DIFFERENT WAY TO SEE COLOR
Most color analysis systems:
-
Start with broad seasonal categorization
-
Rely on memorization
-
Require extended comparison to reach clarity
-
Leave room for interpretation
Color Match Method™:
-
Begins with dominant characteristic identification
-
Uses Hue, Value, and Chroma to establish direction
-
Moves from structure to confirmation
-
Is designed for real-time, client-facing use
FROM PRACTICE TO CERTIFICATION
Color Match Method™ was developed through application first.

Only after the process proved consistent across real client scenarios was it formalized into an certification pathway.
The certification reflects how the method is actually used in practice, not just how it is understood.
MEET THE FOUNDER

Gretchen Kaltenbach
Creator of Color Match Method™
Gretchen approaches color analysis through both clinical observation and creative evaluation. Her work is grounded in how color behaves on the individual, how it interacts with the face, and how small shifts create measurable differences in perception.
With a background spanning healthcare, esthetics, and advanced color analysis training, she developed Color Match Method™ in Raleigh, North Carolina to bring structure to a field that has long relied on interpretation.
The method is built on:
-
Pattern recognition
-
Visual precision
-
Repeatable decision-making
If you’re new to this way of evaluating color, the best place to start is by seeing the system in practice.
